A former director of the MCSPC, Laura Lindenfeld, was recently name as a finalist for the Scripps Howard Awards, an annual contest hosted by the Scripps Howard Fund and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. We are accepting applications until all positions are filled!Roughly 50 summer internships in multiple agencies throughout Maine state and municipal/county governments will be available this year. These span a wide range of job categories including education, engineering, environment, conservation, law, data analysis, finance, economics, and communication. All majors can apply. Students must be completing at least their second year of college and be either a Maine resident or attending a college or university in Maine to apply.Internships are full time, paid at $15/hour, and run for a total of 12 weeks.More information can be found here: https://ow.ly/xIt050QH6VZ

Apply now for the Margaret Chase Smith Public Affairs ScholarshipAn academic-year scholarship for $3500 will support an independent research project focused on a public policy topic. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2024.Eligibility criteria:• a Maine resident, currently enrolled at UMaine for 12 credits or more,• an undergraduate student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher,• completed 40 degree hours prior to the current semester.Previous recipients have come from such diverse disciplines as Geology, History, Political Science, Computer Science, International Affairs, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Landscape Horticulture, Civil Engineering, Nursing, Mechanical Engineering, Natural Resources, Journalism and Mass Communication, Economics, Biochemistry and Microbiology.Applications for the MCS Public Affairs Scholarship are accepted through the Scholarship Universe portal of the UMaine website. Maine NEW (National Education for Women) Leadership hosts its annual six-day residential undergraduate student leadership training program each year in early June. We are looking for a diverse group of students who are motivated to learn about the importance of women’s participation in public life and to develop their own leadership skills.The program includes presentations from politically active women throughout Maine, a visit with women legislators and policy advocates at the State House, and workshops for participants to actively develop leadership skills, such as public speaking, advocacy, and networking. Participants also benefit from the experience of faculty-in-residence, a group of women public leaders who serve as mentors for students throughout their stay.Applications are due Friday, March 22.
